Gentle Yoga for a New Year: SMART Goals

We are at a new beginning, a new year, and lots of us make New Year’s resolutions to make our lives a little better.

Yoga classes,  gyms weight-loss groups get crowded for a while. But as we know, after some weeks or months, most New Year’s resolutions fall by the wayside.

SMART goals is one strategy for a better track record with our resolutions. It helps us get clearer about what we want and how to get there.

SMART is an acronym for upping our chances our resolution will succeed. I’ll use my own goal to demonstrate:

Specific: I’m going to journal with pictures and words regularly.

Measurable: I will journal 3-5 times a week. I will keep track of the days I journal.

Attainable: I can do this. I will renegotiate with myself if it isn’t working for me.

Relevant: This will be an outlet for reflection and creativity. Both matter to me.

Timely: Starting January 8th, 2024, I’ll continue 3/5 days a week for at least 8 weeks.

In this week’s yoga, let’s focus on giving ourselves what will enhance our well-being for a happier, healthier year to come.

"The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all." - Josiyah Martin.

“The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.” Joseph Campbell

“What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.” Vern McLellan

“This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change.” Taylor Swift

“I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.” Arthur Rubenstein

“We are the authors of our destinies.” Nike Tayor-Fatoki

“If you're brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.” Paolo Coehlo
