Workshops @ Willow Street
Willow Street is pleased to offer a variety of workshops and special offerings on focused topics hosted by our own talented teachers and world-renowned guest teachers.
Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds your muscles, blood vessels, nerves, and organs. When it’s healthy, fascia allows your muscles to slide and glide as you move. But when your fascia gets tight and stuck, it can restrict your movement. In this monthly workshop, we will focus on a particular area of the body to help release layers of fascia using props, techniques, and yoga poses. The goal of this workshop is to help decrease tension, improve body awareness, and release fascial “stuckness” so that tissues slide and glide more easily. Everyone welcome.

Shift Your Vibration with Sound Healing
Have you ever asked, “What does raising your vibration mean?” Everything in our existence is in a constant state of vibration. Every bone, organ, and system of the body is in the form of vibration, and therefore it is putting out a frequency. Resonance is the normal healthy vibration of an object, and everything has a resonance frequency. The human body is like an extraordinary orchestra in that each cell plays in harmony with the one next. When the cells in the body are in a healthy state of resonance, then we call that sound health, and when they play out of harmony with each other, we call that dis-ease. In this workshop, we learn how to influence our frequency by practicing breathing exercises, meditations, and vocal toning. All these exercises will be accompanied by the melodic sounds of crystal singing bowls, antique metal singing bowls, wooden drone flutes, pan drums, and chimes. Sign up today and begin your journey to harmonize the mind, body, and spirit.

Yin + Rest
Please join us for a 90-minute restorative practice of Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidrā. The intention of this workshop is to help you relax, unwind, and rejuvenate, and connect with a sense of inner peace and joy.
Matthew Lyons will guide the workshop, beginning with a practice of Yin Yoga. The focus is the deep connective tissue of the body. Access to joints, fascia, ligaments, tendons, and muscles to bones, rather than simply the muscles themselves. Yin Yoga promotes mobility and suppleness of the joints, fascia, and connective tissue. The practice of Yin involves moving into various poses and holding them for a short period — usually 3-5 minutes per pose. Instead of using active muscle strength to move through or hold in a pose, as you would in a Yang asana practice, in Yin you are asked to move to the point of resistance in a pose and then release. The depth in each posture will gradually become deeper with time — whether that’s during class or over days, weeks, or months. Yin Yoga is a practice suitable for all levels — from first-time yogis to experienced practitioners. No yoga experience is needed
After spending about 45-50 minutes with Yin, you will gently transition to a practice of Yoga Nidrā, a gently-guided meditation. Yoga Nidra is a centuries-old meditation practice, often referred to as yogic sleep though going to sleep is not the intent of the practice. Through the use of breath awareness, body scanning, healing music, and imagery, you will are invited in the practice to simply become aware of your experience and sensations without needing to change or fix anything. This is a meditation where there is truly nothing for you to do but “notice” — supporting you in feeling empowered and whole just as you are. Additionally, experiencing this practice can feel like two to three hours of deep rest to your body. No yoga or meditation experience is needed, and all levels are welcome.
No special apparel is needed or required, comfortable and stretchy attire is suggested.

Kudalini Yoga – Maybe Your Flavor!
Yoga, like ice cream, can be found in dozens of flavors. This workshop offers you a taste of Kundalini Yoga to see if it might be a good choice for you. A series of Kundalini workshops in September will follow if you want more.
Kundalini is a style of yoga that is distinguished by its kriyas, a series of postures, breathwork, and mantras that are purposefully combined for a specific effect. Each kriya set is designed to have a positive impact on the practitioner: strengthened immunity, digestive harmony, conquering depression or fear, improved metabolism or sleep, a tamed ego, more confidence, openness to love, clearer intuition, etc.
From ancient sages to modern-day seekers, many have experienced a rapid spiritual growth sparked by awakening the Kundalini energy that lies dormant at the base of our spine. Now is the time to activate our deepest resources — so we can summon more positive energy and lead by example in these challenging times.
Consider this workshop as a mini-vacation that may leave you soaring on Sunday, with life-long passion for a different yoga style.
No previous experience with yoga or kundalini yoga is necessary.

Chillin’ with Patanjali
The roots of yoga run deep. The more familiar physical practices are an opportunity to move and practice from our center. In actuality, the tools of yoga provide a broader philosophical perspective into the nature of the universe, self, mind and even spirit.
Come join Joe Miller for a deep dive and playful exploration of how the Sutras of Patanjali, the seminal text of hatha yoga, line up with modern psychology and can provide a new perspective for understanding our place in the world. We’ll look at the big picture of the Sutras and various interpretations of the text. Then we’ll dive deeper. The first section of the Sutras offers a very succinct description of the nature of the universe and mind. The second dives into the tools that give us direct access to the tools of enlightenment, liberation, and freedom. In this workshop, we’ll explore both these avenues with discussion, meditation, and light movement.

Sacred Cacao Ceremony & Soundbath
A cacao ceremony is a sacred space to go deep within your heart. Through guided breath work and meditation, Johanna will take you on an inward journey to uncover what the body can reveal to you about stuck emotions, energy and patterns that play out in the mind and in your everyday interactions and relationships. During a cacao ceremony we create the sacred container where you can examine all of these things and gently release them from the body and your energetic field.
The Cacao Ceremony will be 90 minutes long and Johanna incorporates sound healing to help alchemize the subtle energetic transformations that happen when working with the power of ceremonial grade cacao and vibrational sound healing. She plays a variety of instruments to help you integrate the wisdom from your body and the cacao.
All ages are invited to participate. No yoga experience needed.
