Willow Street is pleased to offer a variety of workshops and special offerings on focused topics hosted by our own talented teachers and world-renowned guest teachers.
SLIDE & GLIDE SATURDAYS
Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds your muscles, blood vessels, nerves, and organs. When it’s healthy, fascia allows your muscles to slide and glide as you move. But when your fascia gets tight and stuck, it can restrict your movement. In this monthly workshop, we will focus on a particular area of the body to help release layers of fascia using props, techniques, and yoga poses. The goal of this workshop is to help decrease tension, improve body awareness, and release fascial “stuckness” so that tissues slide and glide more easily. Everyone welcome.

With the disruption that currently surrounds us, it’s easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Yoga Nidra, a guided meditative practice, can help you find a source of internal stability and resilience. It can ease tension and fatigue, calm the nervous system, and restore energy.

Let your yoga dance – outdoors!
Let Your Yoga Dance combines gentle yoga and chakra-inspired dance movement (no complicated choreography) with music from around the world. Guaranteed to boost your joy quotient in body, mind, and heart! Dancing is a natural antidepressant, good for exercising balance, strengthening bones and loosening your joints. Fun and energizing for all ages, bodies, and abilities. No yoga experience or mat necessary, just a little room to move.

Yoga for Care Partners of Dementia
Cheryl Kravitz & Angelique Raptakis
This is a three-part series designed for care partners and their loved ones. The first two sessions will focus on the caregiver and the third one will be open to the person with dementia and the care partner.
August 6 2:30 – 4:00 PM
Part 1: This section will be devoted to self-care and ways that caregivers can take care of themselves. It will include breathing techniques, gentle yoga, tips for relaxation, and other ways to reduce stress.
August 20 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Part 2: The care partner will be taught various yoga techniques and ways to work as a team with their loved one. The poses include the use of music to help memory cues for the person with dementia.
Part 3: We invite the care partner with their loved one to work on the yoga poses and breath work together. We will do all of the poses in chairs (wheelchairs welcome) and will have information to take home. Participants may attend virtually.

Plant Spirit Yoga
Join herbalist and yoga teacher, Angelique Raptakis for an exploration of the connection between plant energetics and yoga. Each class will introduce one plant, a sample of the plant medicine, and a yoga practice to experience the energetic qualities of that plant. Each class begins and ends with a plant spirit meditation, providing the students a chance to connect to the spirit of the plant while sipping on an herbal tea or tincture, experiencing through taste, touch, and smell.

Chillin’ with Patanjali
The roots of yoga run deep. The more familiar physical practices are an opportunity to move and practice from our center. In actuality, the tools of yoga provide a broader philosophical perspective into the nature of the universe, self, mind and even spirit.
Come join Joe Miller for a deep dive and playful exploration of how the Sutras of Patanjali, the seminal text of hatha yoga, line up with modern psychology and can provide a new perspective for understanding our place in the world. We’ll look at the big picture of the Sutras and various interpretations of the text. Then we’ll dive deeper. The first section of the Sutras offers a very succinct description of the nature of the universe and mind. The second dives into the tools that give us direct access to the tools of enlightenment, liberation, and freedom. In this workshop, we’ll explore both these avenues with discussion, meditation, and light movement.

Sacred Cacao Ceremony & Soundbath
A cacao ceremony is a sacred space to go deep within your heart. Through guided breath work and meditation, Johanna will take you on an inward journey to uncover what the body can reveal to you about stuck emotions, energy and patterns that play out in the mind and in your everyday interactions and relationships. During a cacao ceremony we create the sacred container where you can examine all of these things and gently release them from the body and your energetic field.
The Cacao Ceremony will be 90 minutes long and Johanna incorporates sound healing to help alchemize the subtle energetic transformations that happen when working with the power of ceremonial grade cacao and vibrational sound healing. She plays a variety of instruments to help you integrate the wisdom from your body and the cacao.
All ages are invited to participate. No yoga experience needed.

Courage in Unpredictable Times
As we know all too well, fear of the unknown can exacerbate symptoms of stress or trigger panic attacks, especially in people who might be prone to them. Let’s stop for a bit and reconnect with ourselves and one another. This workshop includes discussion, healing poses, appropriate readings, and breathwork. The cost includes materials for vision boards. Everything discussed in the workshop is always confidential. All levels are welcome. Poses will mainly be restorative.
The instructor is Cheryl Kravitz, APR, CFRE, RYT200, a graduate of the Willow Street Yoga Teacher Training Program. She received additional certification to teach yoga to survivors of trauma, restorative yoga, and yoga for brain longevity. She teaches specialized yoga to people with injuries, survivors of abuse, individuals with dementia, and caregivers.

Yoga and Music are universal. So, we’re putting them together for an enriching experience in movement and sound. We’re going to have a Yoga Rumba!
On Saturday, September 17th, join us for a very special class which will feature a sweet alignment-based flow … in Spanish with LIVE music!
María Elena will lead this joyful class, bringing together her love of yoga and music, with instrumental accompaniment featuring Rene Ibañez. Learn a little Spanish, practice a little yoga, and have a lot of fun! Lite refreshments will be served.

Kundalini yoga incorporates the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of yoga into a cohesive and integrated system. It is perfect for people who want both the immediate and long-term physical benefits of yoga and the transformative power of an uplifted consciousness.
Kundalini yoga is practiced in kriya form. A kriya is a “complete action;” a series of exercises, postures, breathwork, and mantras that are purposefully combined to have a calibrated overall effect. These four classes will benefit your immune and glandular system, ability to deal with difficult emotions
and open your heart.
No previous experience with yoga or kundalini yoga is necessary. An open mind, however, is a must.

Finding Your Root: Pelvic Floor YogaTM and the Energy Body
Yoga is an energy management system called nadis. Yoga poses, breathing practices and mudras are practiced to build awareness of blockages or challenges of the nadis. This is step one. Often there can be emotional and physical holding in this area that can contribute to physical and energetic binding. After cultivating an awareness of the subtle body, one can then apply yoga poses and pranayama to effect change. The pelvis is the transmission station of the feet and legs to communicate with the upper body. And the pelvic floor is the seat of the root chakra which is usually associated with the earth element. Come explore the lower body energy and chakra systems.

As we enter Autumn, we harvest the growth of Spring and Summer and, like the trees, bring our energy inward to lighten up and release old “leaves” we no longer need.
Autumn is the most potent season for intuition and vision and is associated with the Metal Element in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In this workshop, we will focus on rejuvenating and invigorating the Organs and Meridians (energy channels) of the Metal Element – the Lungs and Intestines and the transmutation of their negative emotional characteristics.
The Metal energy of Autumn is an expression of new Yin. We will balance the Yin nature of gentle, cleansing asana stretches and breathwork with complementary Yang practices, whilst using meditation, journeying, and deep inward listening to open to our intuitive gifts.
Students of all levels are welcome.
