Vedic Chant: Gayatri Mantra with Kalpana Shere-Wolfe
Gayatri mantra is one of the most sacred mantras from the Vedas. There are many descriptions and translations of this mantra. It is at one level dedicated to the feminine aspect of the Sun just before sunrise. At another level, Gayatri mantra is a prayer addressed to the Divine that entones adoration, meditation and prayer to awaken and illuminate our consciousness.
In this workshop, students will learn the Gayatri mantra in an easy step-wise manner with individual and group guidance from an experienced teacher.
Kalpana was born in India and immigrated to the United States at the age of four where she has lived since. She grew up in New York and now resides in Baltimore. Since childhood she has had frequent visits to India, initially for summer vacations as a child and later for yoga and Vedic chant studies. She has a strong connection with India and its culture.
Kalpana is a mother of two boys, married, and a physician by training. She has studied yoga and Vedic chant since 2006 in the Krishnamacharya tradition and later became certified in yoga, yoga therapy and Vedic chant. Since that time she has been studying Vedic chant with her teacher, Mrs. Desikachar, on a regular basis. In addition to Vedic chant and yoga, she has been interested in Ayurveda after experiencing its health benefits. She has studied and taught Ayurveda since 2015 in the Maharishi Ayurveda tradition.
Kalpana considers sound – from Native American Indian Chant to Gregorian Chant to Sufi Qawwali to Vedic Chanting – as sacred: a beautiful, loving and all pervading aspect of the Divine that is accessible to anyone of any background.

Sound Healing: Stretch Breathe and Unwind
with Johanna Olivas
Join Johanna for a one-hour session to fully relax the body and mind with the healing tones of a soundbath. The beginning portion will focus on stretching and releasing the physical body to increase the energetic flow. Participants will unwind and soften areas of the body where tension is typically held. We will also do relaxing breath work. The soundbath will include soothing therapeutic tones from crystal singing bowls, Himalayan metal singing bowls, gong, chimes and more.

Reducing Trauma and Anxiety in 2022:
This workshop includes discussion, healing poses, appropriate readings, and breath work. As we know all too well, fear of the unknown can exacerbate symptoms of stress or trigger panic attacks, especially in people who might be prone to them. As we complete the first quarter of 2022, let’s stop for a bit and reconnect with ourselves and one another.
Cheryl Kravitz, APR, CFRE, RYT200, is a graduate of the Willow Street Yoga Teacher Training Program. She received additional certification to teach yoga to survivors of trauma, restorative yoga, and yoga for brain longevity. She teaches specialized yoga to people with injuries, survivors of abuse, individuals with dementia, and caregivers. Everything discussed in the workshop is always confidential. All levels of students are welcome. Poses will mainly be restorative.

Come exactly as you are to nourish your self, recharge, and dwell in the innate wisdom that resides in the center of your heart. When we invite our awareness to turn inwards, we invite a relationship with our inner being. What this deeper essences craves more than anything else is simply presence. Being with, observation, bearing witness.
On this Valentine’s Day – during a time when everything is constantly shifting all around us – we will feel into the part of us that is *always* present, what is unchanging. When we welcome ourselves back to this essence – touching in again and again – we meet the heart exactly as it is. We say hello. We glimpse how our presence alone can be the most potent form of love.
This meditative practice will include breathing, contemplating, meditating, and journaling. All are welcome.
This will be the launch event for WSY’s free month-long Meditation Challenge that will kickoff on Sunday 2/27 and run through Saturday 4/2.
This Monday February 7th we are delighted to be reopening the studio and ready to welcome you back to practice with us in person.
For the benefit of the community, we will be requiring one time proof of vaccination (please be fully vaxxed and boosted) – either your vaccine card or a photo will suffice. Masks are not yet optional until Omicron numbers come down.
We’ll be opening our doors on Monday for Angelique’s Gentle Yoga Class at 6:15 pm and then Lori’s Intermediate Class at 7:45 pm. But if you can’t make it into the studio we will continue to have a robust online schedule. Click here for the full schedule
