Radiant Rhythms Ecstatic Dance

with Clara Fang

eugenia-maximova-DMxfqubQciA-unsplash (1).jpg

Many of us spend countless hours sitting at our desks and infront of screens, accumulating mental, emotional and physical fatigue. Ecstatic dance is the perfect wellness practice that lets us unplug from our devices and responsibilities in an interactive and immersive environment where everyone is encouraged to explore free expression through movement. In ecstatic dance, we get out of our mind and into our body and express and process our emotions through movement. The result is mental clarity, emotional freedom, and physical embodiment. The benefits of ecstatic dance include:

Stress and tension relief
Mindfulness and relaxation
Somatic healing
Self-expression
Exercise and play
Community and connection

No experience necessary! We will provide instructions and ease you into the practice. The event begins with an opening circle where we get to know each other and share intentions, followed by an hour and fifteen minute playlist, and a closing circle to share reflections. We will spend time before and after the dance connecting in community. During the dance there is no talking. This helps us to connect with our bodies and each other nonverbally. The result is often a trance-like and ecstatic experience.

Music: A mix of new age, worldbeat, tribal, EDM, trance, arranged in a dance wave, from slow to fast to slow. It is typically 50% non-lyrical.

What to bring: Water bottle, short sleeve, loose clothing, expect to get sweaty! Yoga mat (optional). No alcohol or food is provided and please don't bring any.

Autumn Equinox

Forest Bathing:

Rock Creek Park

with Susan West Montgomery

1.3 (241).jpg

Times of transition offer opportunities for rededication to self-care and well-being. Join us in honoring
the Autumn Equinox with a forest bathing session at Rock Creek. Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, is a
Japanese wellness practice that helps individuals access the healing properties of nature. Extended
contemplative time in nature calms the mind, promotes well-being, and cultivates a profound sense of
belonging. During this truly immersive, 90-minute experience, you will be invited to slow down, to be
curious, and to touch, smell, hear, and see nature more fully. The session will not be strenuous but
requires the ability to walk a mile or so on uneven surfaces with some uphill grades.

Susan is long-time member of the Willow Street Yoga Community and a Kripalu certified Outdoor
Mindfulness Guide. She provides customized outdoor mindfulness excursions in the Washington DC
region and beyond. She is also a passionate advocate and non-profit consultant who is committed to
leveraging natural and historic places to connect citizens, promote social justice, and foster health and
well-being.
